About Fairsum

Child support and alimony are set by formulas written into state law, yet most people first hear their number from an attorney or a court clerk, with no way to check it. Official calculators exist in some states, but they rarely explain the steps, and third-party tools often hide their assumptions or quietly use outdated caps.

Fairsum rebuilds each guideline directly from the statute, shows every intermediate figure, cites the section it comes from, and dates each page. The goal is not to replace a lawyer. It is to let you walk into mediation, a consultation or a courtroom already knowing what the guideline says and why.

Who is behind it

Fairsum is an independent publication. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal services, take referral fees from attorneys, or accept payment for placement. Our methodology and editorial policy describe how every figure is sourced, tested and reviewed.
